Vacancy for New Board Members with Fundraising Expertise

Make Every Woman Count (MEWC) is looking for two outstanding team players with fundraising and resource mobilisation expertise to join our current board as trustees to help steer the charity forward.

MEWC is a small dynamic African women-led organisation, registered in the UK and in Guinea, dedicated to documenting and producing knowledge on women's rights in Africa. Through research, data collection, and analysis, we strive to raise awareness, drive policy changes, and demand accountability from institutions. Our mission is to leverage the knowledge we produce to inform policies, programmes and initiative to champion gender equality and women’s rights in Africa.

About the Role

We are currently looking for two experienced and driven individuals with specialised skills in fundraising and resource mobilisation to join and complement our Board of Directors. The role would suit energetic individuals able to work as part of a team to deliver results.  We would especially appreciate individuals who are not afraid to roll their sleeves up to deliver results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the Board and the MEWC team in the development and implementation of an effective fundraising strategy
  • Work with both the MEWC team and the Board to establish strategic yet achievable fundraising targets and provide insight to track progress towards these goals.
  • Support the process of identifying and cultivating relationships with potential donors and sponsors.
  • Keep updated on the latest trends and best practices in the non-profit sector fundraising.
  • Collaborate with the MEWC Board and staff to reinforce the value of MEWC's work in both the initial and later stages of resource mobilisation and fundraising.
  • Represent MEWC at key networking opportunities together with other MEWC Board Members and the Executive Director.
  • Alongside other board members, offer guidance to the MEWC team to bolster the organisation's public image and reach.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in successful fundraising for non-profit organisations.
  • Good insight and overview of the funding landscape, as well as a strong network of relationships with funders, donors and sponsors.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to develop effective fundraising strategies.
  • Passion for our organisation's mission, vision and values.

Commitment

It is estimated that the role will require the equivalent of at least one day a month. We suggest pacing this out to the equivalent of around 2 hours per week.

About the Current Board

The current Board consists of seven members, and will be expanded to nine with the two new members we are currently inviting to apply. The members of the Board are based in Africa, Europe and North-America, and bring a wealth of expertise on women’s human rights, knowledge production and gender equality in Africa and worldwide to MEWC. The Board members are in their fourth year of membership, and very committed to further strengthen and advance the ground-breaking work of Make Every Woman Count.

The board convenes three times a year to discuss important matters, make strategic decisions, and provide guidance on key initiatives. These meetings serve as crucial opportunities for the board members to collaborate, share insights, and shape the future direction of the organization. Board meetings are conducted virtually, thus eliminating geographical constraints.

This is a voluntary role and so not salary is payable. Trustees are elected for a term of 3 years, which can be renewable for an additional term.
