Our resources section is where we make available useful resources such as studies, reports  from the United Nations, Civil Society, NGOs, Governments, Academic Institutions and other sources related to women and specially women in Africa and other important documents such as copies of the Maputo Protocol and UNSCR 1325. 

We have been able to gather together important and useful information while at the same time fostering information sharing among other organizations working for women’s rights.

It ranges from Women, Peace and Security; Political Participation; Economic Empowerment, Violence Against Women to HIV/AIDS & Reproductive and so on.

On January 2016, the Assembly of the Heads of States and Governments of the African Union declared 2016 as the Africa Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the rights of women. To commemorate the year, the African Union commissioned this report with technical support from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and contribution from UN Women.

In 2000, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1325 to uphold women’s rights in conflict and their roles in peace and security. Despite signs of progress, the impact on women’s lives and roles worldwide has been sporadic. This briefing argues that 15 years on, the UN and Member States should use a formal review of the Women, Peace and Security agenda as a crucial opportunity to address key gaps. New commitments should focus on women’s participation, preventing conflict and gender-based violence, monitoring and implementation, and financing.

One in 10 girls worldwide have been forced into a sexual act, and six in 10 children ages 2 to 14 are regularly beaten by parents and caregivers, according to a report issued Thursday by the United Nations’ children’s agency, Unicef.
