The Big Effect Girls Can Create: Now you Know Why Girls Matter in Food Security.

In developing countries, being born a girl means a challenging life ahead. Watch this. See what hurdles and risks await these girls. Think how we can unleash their potential.

Girl Effect was produced by a partnership of several nonprofit organizations that work towards promoting women’s rights and getting gender on the global agenda. Check out their website and learn more about the effect girls can make.

The State of Food and Agriculture 2011 says that women and girls in developing countries have much less access to the resources needed to produce food. This animation is a reminder that, in all aspects of life, they are in disadvantaged positions. According to UN Women’s latest report, some 600 million women, more than half the world’s working women, are in vulnerable employment. This means they are trapped in insecure jobs and often outside the purview of legal protection.

The United Nations Foundation has set up a similar campaign called Girl Up for North America to channel American girls’ energy and compassion to raise awareness and funds for UN’s gender related programmes. Check out these movements and see what you can do to support all the girls around the world to become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the feeders of the future.
