UN Women has currently 10 ongoing programmes in different areas like enhancing participation of women in peace-building and post-conflict processes, financing for gender equality, or ending violence against women and girls. All are funded by the European Commission and are in 38 countries from Africa, Arab States, Asia, America and the Caribbean, Southern Caucasus and Southeastern Europe.
A new partnership between the EU and UN Women was signed in April 2012. This Memorandum of Understanding reaffirms their commitment to support gender equality and women’s empowerment around the world and ensures closer collaboration; sharing information, expertise and analysis in order to effectively advance women’s rights.
The Report conveys results of a vibrant partnership between the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) in 2011, spanning over 110 countries across the globe. An independent evaluation underlined that by working together, the EU and the UN together were able to achieve more than each could working alone.
In 2011, EU Member States provided 40 percent of the funding for UN peacekeeping operations and 38 percent of the UN’s regular budget, as well as about one half of all UN Member State contributions to UN funds and programmes. The organizations worked together in the fields of peace and security, human rights and development.
