Lesotho's Minister of Sports Mathibeli Mokhothu on Tuesday launched Future Olympic Women Leaders' Development (FOWLD) programme in Maseru as part of empowering women through sports.

Mokhothu said the programme whose aim is to sharpen women's leadership skills in the administration of sports, saw at least 31 women begin the programme a month ago before it was officially launched on Tuesday.

The programme is aimed at mentoring the country's young women in the areas including communication and sports, establishment of clubs, leadership, personal growth for development, assertiveness and influencing stage, to mention but a few, said the minister.

He stressed that women are capable to lead in many ways and not only in sports and therefore should be supported in all ways to prove their capability.

Mokhothu said women have been marginalized in many ways due to cultural traits and pointed out that that should be a thing of the past.

For about six months, the participants would come in camp every last week of the month and the trainers who include the former President of Lesotho Women's Football Committee, and the former President and founder member of Lesotho Dance Sport.
