On Friday, 6th January CNN International's Inside Africa show aired an exclusive interview with successful African women entrepreneurs who recently participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) African Women's Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) program hosted by U.S. State Department.

Isha Fofana, renowned Gambian artist and owner of Mama Africa – Gambia's only women's museum was amongst the women interviewed.

The interview took place in Washington DC during Isha's trip to the U.S. in September 2011. In addition to the networking discussions experienced with other colleagues and female American entrepreneurs, program participants also visited private companies, business incubators, financial institutions, schools and mentoring programs.

The AWEP program is a multi-regional project that showcases women's entrepreneurial advancement in the U.S., provides a firsthand observation of successful business practices, and introduces advocacy and networking models. The program is designed for participants to develop practical business knowledge, leadership skills and the ability to forge lasting networks. AWEP seeks to equip the women with tools and opportunities for them to accelerate the growth of their businesses, become leaders in their communities, and drive further social and economic progress in their nations.

The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program. Launched in 1940, the IVLP is a professional exchange program that seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders. These visits reflect the International Visitors' professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States. The program includes a cohort of professional colleagues from all around the world.
