Minister for the Department of International Relations and Corporation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has praised outgoing African Union (AU) chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, saying she’s demonstrated that women can lead the continent.

Nkoana-Mashabane has given an update on international development’s including the mid-year summit of the AU, scheduled for Kigali in Rwanda this month.

The minister says South Africa has achieved a political milestone through Dlamini-Zuma’s tenure as AU chair.

Nkoana-Mashabane says the AU chair has represented the country with clear vision.

“We see the important milestones that we have reached through her, in less than four years.”

She says under her leadership many projects to better the lives of Africans have already started to yield results.

“We are already seeing a whole lot of initiatives that look at the integration of rail [and] road networks.”

President Jacob Zuma is expected to attended the summit, where candidates to succeed Dlamini-Zuma will be elected.
