Moremi Initiative for Women’s Leadership in Africa has named Uganda’s Faith Namalwa among 26 Africa’s most promising young women leaders with the courage and commitment to lead and shape the future of Africa.

The 2014 MILEAD Fellows were chosen through a highly competitive selection process with criteria based on their outstanding leadership promise, community service accomplishments, and commitment to the advancement of women in Africa.

Founded in 2004, The Moremi Initiative for Women's Leadership in Africa strives to engage, inspire, and equip young women and girls to become the next generation of leading politicians, activists, social entrepreneurs, and change agents.

 From poverty to women’s economic empowerment, environmental justice and political participation, this new generation of African women leaders are proof that Africa can produce the bold, visionary and inspirational leadership needed to lift Africa to its rightful place on the global stage.

According to release from organization, all the applicants often work under extremely difficult circumstances.

About Faith Namalwa

Ms. Faith Namalwa of Uganda was selected for her significant contribution as a passionate advocate of development of women and girls in Uganda. Faith for the past years has actively provided leadership on pertinent issues- from girls education and young women’s empowerment to HIV/AIDS and youth participation/ leadership in Uganda.

 In 2009, her exceptional performance in U.A.C.E earned her government sponsorship.

She holds a Bachelors of Science degree Mathematics and Physics from Makerere University- where she currently serves as a member of the Science Consult Program, aimed at simplifying science related subjects at all levels.

Faith has served in many leadership capacities, including as the Library, Information and Protocol Prefect, Chairperson of the Science Club in 2007; Executive Member of Christian Students Association in 2007-2008; and the Vice Chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee.

She initiated the science club for Senior High Schools through which she continues to empower, inspiring and support girls to pursue science at higher institutions.

 Faith currently works with Action for Rural Women’s Empowerment (ARUWE) a nonprofit organization that supports and advocates for the marginalized rural poor women.

She envisions a society where women are equally represented and can sustain their future productive and reproductive lives. As a young leader, she is committed to engage young, sharpen their thinking and shape their future to be able to participate more meaningfully in community life, and the labor market seeding a wider revolution.
