The secretary general of the Pan African Women's Organization (PAWO), Assetou Koite, congratulated on Friday in Luanda the women’s participation in the general elections, thus showing their citizenship duty for appearing in the polling station to vote.

Speaking to the Angolan Public Television (TPA) as AU observer to the general elections, Assetou Koite said that the both people and women left their houses to exercise their voting right in various polling stations.

The official said that she was impressed by the fact that many women were chairpersons of polling tables where the observers passed in the morning in the localities of Ingombota, Ilha de Luanda, Prenda and Alvalade.

She congratulated the Angolan people, mainly the women for this electoral process that happened in an organized way and in an environment of peace.

 

Pan African Women's Organization was founded in 1962 with the objective of discussing the role played by women in the reconstruction of Africa, in the fighting against AIDS, education and guarantee of peace and democracy.
