Superintendent-designate, Etweda Cooper has promised empowering for the youths and women of Grand Bassa County, if confirmed by the Liberian Senate. Speaking during confirmation hearings at the Capitol Building on Monday, Miss Cooper said development for youths and women remain a concern in every quarter of the country and Grand Bassa is no exception.

"We will endeavor to open reachable avenues for the enhancement and growth of youths and women in every sector of our country. We will further ensure that their educational and empowerment needs are addressed; job availability and gender issues will also form part of our agenda", she pledged.

The Superintendent-designate also promised to decentralize her activities, adding "Under the decentralization plan, maintaining peace and harmony through dialogue; reconciliation will be the hallmark of our leadership for democracy and participatory governance, if Grand Bassa County must continue the forward march to realizing Vision 2030."

According to her, this will be more visible when the resources, county budget and other opportunities are apportioned to the five Statutory Districts, nine administrative districts and eleven townships, touching the lives of over 223,000 plus countywide.

"Every district must be given logistical support to include mobility, office equipment, supplies and operational budget. By this, local officials will be able to efficiently manage the affairs in their locals", she indicated.

She noted that Grand Bassa stands in a unique position to boast of major concessions and companies operating within its confines and enjoyable facilitates of the seaport of Buchanan as well as the hospitality of the Bassa People.

"Yet, there is a need to further engage these partners to improve the services and opportunities being provided their workers and the citizens at large", she concluded.

If confirmed by the Senate, Miss Cooper, a strong women advocate, will become the second female Superintendent for Grand Bassa. Her predecessor Julia Duncan-Cassell has been appointed Minister for Gender and Development.
