The assistant Ombudsperson, Maria da Conceição de Almeida Sango, has defended that the women who currently hold leadership or other relevant posts in the country, in various areas, have achieved these positions through their own commitment, and not exclusively because of the state policy on gender.
Speaking to ANGOP in view of the theme “Women in society, their participation in the political life”, the assistant Ombudsperson said that due to prejudice women has been seen as an inferior being, but, nowadays, one can clearly see their capacities and intelligence.
She reminded that the dedication of Angolan women dates back to the colonial era, in which female laundry washers and hawkers raised their children through these occupations and were a support to the economy of their households, even without having academic training.
“Thus, the posts they have today are gifts, but merit achieved with hard work, commitment and dedication”, she stressed.
