GENDER parity in the education sector was better realised last year in Nyanza.

According to National Parents Association-Nyanza chairman, Jackson Omollo Ogweno, Nyanza was among the provinces that increased in gender parity with the ratio of girls to boys standing at 55:42 in 2011 compared to 39:61 in 2010.

Ogweno noted that excellent performance from the girl child in the province is a first in history and congratulated good role models in particular professional women under the banner of Nyanza Women Education Initiatives.

However, he pointed out that serious efforts should be exerted on the boy child's educational needs to avoid situations where the boy child is marginalised. Ogweno congratulated Nyanza Director of Education, Geoffrey Cherongis, for the good performance achieved in the province. Kisumu county was ranked position eight nationally.
