The Gender Monitoring office (GMO) will develop a program to assess the implementation of gender equality from the grassroots to the national level.

This is top on agenda of their three-year strategic plan presented yesterday to representatives of private and public sectors and stakeholders in gender issues in the country.

"This strategic plan will facilitate our commitment to the implementation of gender policies in every corner and sector of Rwanda," Oda Gasinzigwa, the Chief Gender Monitor said during the validation meeting.

GMO will also set up an office to handle all data on sex-related concerns like Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Gasinzigwa added that their employees would receive more training over the next three years in order to effectively serve the bureau.

"We have to teach our staff about approaching gender issues because one can't educate the population or oversee their actions if he or she is not skilled," she said.

GMO will also focus on building partnerships with sectors like Education and Local government, as they play a big role in maintaining gender equality.

The strategic plan will be released soon after its modification.
