The Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) has a total enrollment of 22,585 for the 2013/2014 academic year, according to a report released by the MCSS. LINA says the MCSS report indicated that of this number, 11,349 or 50.3 percent are males, while 11,236 or 47.7 percent are females.
The report points out that of the three high schools in the System with a total of 2,934 students, William V.S. Tubman High School has the highest enrollment of 1,119, making up 38%, while the G. W. Gibson High School has 886, which is 30% and the D. Tweh High School having 31.6% with 929 students.
At the junior high level, there are 5,382 students with the male dominating with 2,883 or 53.5% and the female following with 2,445 or 46.5%. The report interestingly notes that at the elementary level, which has a total enrollment of 14,269 students, females dominate at 52.9% or 7,550 and the males being put at 6,719 or 47.1% of the total enrollment.
The MCSS established in 1968 through the sponsorship of the San Francisco State College of California and implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with the intention of running an effective government school system in the capital city.
MCSS has a Council, which is the highest decision-making body of the System. It monitors the effective running of the school system. The MCSS is headed by a Superintendent, who is recruited by the Council and recommended to the President, through the Ministry of Education, for appointment.
