No fewer than 3,583 widows in Katsina South Senatorial District of Katsina State, yesterday, received skills acquisition tools distributed by a philantropist, Umar Abdullahi Tata.

Our correspondent reports that the tools distributed to included 1,020 sewing machines, 1,200 spaghetti making machines, 260 vegetable grinding machines, 200 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 200 bags of beans and 1, 200 bags of flour.

Additionally too, 10 buses, 20 motorised tricycles, 72 motorcycles, deep144 freezers, 144 drums of kerosene and 227 knitting machines were also distributed.

In a short speech during the distribution which was handled by Katsina State chapter of JIBWIS at Funtua, Tata said that the gesture was aimed at assisting the widows to become self-reliant and carter for the needs of their children.

He said that all the beneficiaries were screened before being given the items to ensure that only the targeted persons benefitted from the gesture.

Tata explained beneficiaries were selected from 11 local government areas in the zone and commended religious groups for their support in selection of the targeted widows.

He, however, urged the widows not to sell the items and ensure they maintained them, saying that similar programme was conducted in Daura senatorial zone where 2,500 widows benefited.

A cleric, Mallam Zubairu Bala, commended the philanthropist for the donation and urged him to keep up the good efforts, even as he urged wealthy individuals to emulate the good deeds.
