The government has disbursed Sh500,000 to ten women groups in Mandera East to boost their income generating ventures. Each group received cheque worth Sh50,000 from the revolving Women Enterprise Fund.

"You will be required to payback the loan at a rate of Sh4,176 after a grace period of three months, the county director for Gender and Social Development Adan Issack who issued the cheques told the beneficiaries outside his office.

"The grace period covers April, May and June after which you start repayment in July this year," the official further clarified to beneficiaries. Nine of the groups hail from Central division and one from Khalalio division.

The government, Mr. Issack, noted had for the last three years, disbursed over Sh13.5 million through the kitty to 27 women groups in the district, an initiative he said was in line with the aspirations of the Millennium Development Goals and the vision 2030 blue print both of which aspired to alleviate poverty amongst the vulnerable groups.
