Msanzala Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Daka's wife Priscilla, has donated 20 sewing machines and bundles of chitenge materials worth more than K40 million to 20 women clubs in various wards with a call to the womenfolk to work hard and enhance their living standards.

And a women's club in Msanzala has initiated a hammermill empowerment project after accessing K50 million from the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC).

Ms Daka said Msanzala residents should recognise the efforts President Rupiah Banda and the MMD administration had made to improve their livelihoods.

She said the constituency was performing well due to many development projects such as the on-going rural electrification project, upgrading of schools like Manyika Basic School, where a new 1x3 classroom block had been constructed.

Ms Daka was speaking in Msanzala at the weekend when she donated to the 20 clubs in various wards to enable them start life-sustaining businesses.

She also donated football kits for youths.

"President Banda has shown to us that he is a concerned leader who is working hard together with his able ministers like your area MP to improve your livelihoods and eradicate poverty because MMD is a working Government.

"Let us support our president Mr Banda and your MP Mr Daka so that all developmental projects you are receiving are not disturbed. We need continuity," Ms Daka said

She donated a wheelchair on behalf of First Lady Thandiwe Banda to Jennipher Makwenda, 13, a physically challenged girl who had not been able to walk for the past six years.

She said the residents should value President Banda's hard work to turn the face of the constituency and ensure area MP Mr Daka delivered all requested empowerment projects to the local people in a bid to eradicate poverty.

And a women's club in Mawanda Ward at Matipi agricultural cooperative society has installed a hammermill as an empowerment project after accessing K50 million from CEEC.

Constituency secretary Abraham Chirwa said operation of the hammermill would start as soon as a Zesco generator was installed and power was connected.

And constituency chairperson Patrick Chizongwe said the future of the ruling MMD in Msanzala was bright and the residents would remain loyal to President Banda and their MP, Mr Daka during the 2011 elections.
