The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is accepting applications for the V Competition of Best Practices that Incorporate a Gender Equality Perspective in Health. The competition aims to identify the experiences that best address the differential needs and opportunities of men and women in the sphere of health.  In particular, it wants to identify experiences showing strategies and efforts undertaken to increase women and men’s opportunities to enjoy optimal health.

PAHO will give a US 5,000 dollar award to the winning best practice and invite a representative to Washington, D.C. to present the experience in March 2012, during the celebration of International Women´s Day.  This dollar award will be used to draft, edit and print the best practice.

This competition welcomes applications from public or private sector organizations; health ministries, education, national women’s organizations, civil society and/or academia groups.

Applications are being accepted from September 21st through November 15th 2011.
