Asmara, 24 February 2014 – The members of the NUEW in Gejeret sub-zone, Asmara, stated that governmental care for Fistula victims attests to the national commitment towards promoting women’s health. They made the remark upon visiting the National Fistula Center in Mendefera city, during which it was stated that the patients

there comprise females victimized by instances of childhood marriage, and that raised societal participation is vital as regards extending material and moral support to them.

Dr. Habte Hailemelekot, Maternity and Gynecology expert at Mendefera Regional Referral Hospital, explained the causes of Fistula, and explained the need of equipping the victims with skill knowhow parallel to the treatment period so as to enable them stand firm against the potential stigma thereof.

Mr. Abraham Hagos, Administrator of Mendefera sub-zone, disclosed that there is a plan to organize a training course for Fistula victims in collaboration with stakeholders.
